SMTP

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is a protocol used to send and relay email. Mail servers use it to move messages toward the recipient's mail system, and email clients can use it to submit outgoing messages. Protocols such as IMAP serve a different purpose: accessing messages already stored in a mailbox.
